During an entire century, from 1843 to 1944, from the July Monarchy to the Third Republic, L’Illustration was the very first French illustrated newspaper. It used to cover all the great events but also daily life in France at that time. Famous illustrators and artists contributed to enrich the collection of original documents with engravings or lithographs, that used to be the unique way to illustrate the newspaper. But the collection also gather many exceptional photographic documents.
