Tom Kennedy
Tom Kennedy has over 40 years experience as a photojournalist, editor and science writer. Following an exhibition of his work as part of the Dublin Arts Festival in 1972 Tom Kennedy became active in promoting a greater appreciation of creative and documentary photography. In collaboration with a number of other photographers Tom Kennedy established gallery space and a collection of prints, the Source Photographic Archives. Although the galleries, first in Dublin, then in Mayo, no longer exist, the collection of images has continued to expand and provide a service to publishers. While general in coverage, a particular strength of the collection is in the collection of black and white street photography. Tom Kennedy’s work has appeared in a number of exhibitions including Out of the Shadows in London, Irish Shop Fronts in Amsterdam, Natural Forms in the Linenhall Castlebar and the Inside Ireland show in Dublin. Over the years Tom Kennedy’s work has featured in numerous publications including Eilish Dillon’s book, Inside Ireland and the portfolios, Dublin, and Through Irish Eyes. As a science writer Tom Kennedy was the editor of the State agency publication Technology Ireland and was co-founder of the popular Science Spin magazine. Tom Kennedy was also coauthor with chemist, Margaret Franklin, of the book Science and Art of Colour.
