Napoleon at the Lodge in Faubourg Saint-Marcel

According to a legend maintained for a long time by Napoleonic propaganda, Napoleon was said to have joined the freemasons whilst in Egypt, during the campaign of 1798/99. However there remains insufficient proof of this fact. He is presented here shortly after his abdication, asking a Mason for entry into the loge.
