Jerusalem - The Dome of the Rock. Oldest existing Muslim monument, built 685-691 as a shrine for pilgrims. The Rock sacred to Muslims as site from which Muhammad ascended to heaven, and to Jews as place where Abraham prepared to sacrifice Isaac, his son.
