Refrigeration: Sectional view of ice-house showing ramming down of ice. Pit dug and lined with brick, poor conductor of heat. Roof covered with thatch for same reason. Each piece of ice dipped in water before packed in ice-house, so forming solid mass with minimum surface area exposed. Drain at bottom.
