John James Audubon (1780-1851) American ornithologist and artist. Cartoon from Thomas Hood "The Comic Annual", London, 1836, during the time that Audubon's "The Birds of America" was being published (1827-38). Audobon has beak for nose, his collar, epaulettes and hat are a mass of feathers, medal depicting a bird hangs on chain round his neck and there are flights of birds in background. Woodcut
