William Harvey (1578-1657), English physician, published his famous "De motu cordis…" ("Anatomical Exercise on the Motion of the Heart and Blood in Animals"), in 1628. In this work he was the first to use scientific method to explain a biological problem. From "Vies des Savants Illustres", Louis Figuier, (Paris 1870).
