John Robert Clynes (1869-1949) born in Oldham, Lancashire. British trade union organiser and one of the original members of the British Labour (socialist) Party. Chairman of the party 1921-1922. Elected to Parliament for Manchester Platting in 1906. Home Secretary 1929-1931. Clynes addressing the House of Commons from the benches. From a series of cards on "Notable MPs" (London, 1929).
