Robert Fulton (1765-1815) American engineer and inventor born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. His steamboat 'Clermont' made a successful journey on the Hudson river from New York to Albany on 14 August 1807, heralding the beginning of commercial steamboat traffic.
