The Princess Nyosan', c1765. The princess looks down at the cat playing with the hem of her robe. In "The Book of Genji", Eleventh century classic of Japanese literature, Nyosan is the second principal wife of Genji, son of the Japanese Emperor. Japanese coloured woodblock print. Suzuki Harunobu (1725-1770) Japanese artist and printmaker, the first to produce full colour prints.
