War in Egypt, 1882. During unrest in 1881 and 1882 the Egyptian Army had built forts to protect Alexandria. Anxious for the safety of the Suez Canal, after a number of warnings, the British Fleet bombarded Alexandria on 11 July 1882. A Krupp field gun in position in defence of Alexandria.
