Issued to honour the people's defence of Madrid; its dominant blue colour may evoke the blue overalls that were standard worker's attire. On Nov 7th General Franco, head of the military rebellion announced that the city would fall the next day; instead the Madrid resisted his armies for two years. The poster shows evidence of the expressionist influence on the Spanish Civil War art.
