Carlism is a political movement in Spain seeking the establishment of a separate line of the Bourbon dynasty on the Spanish throne. After the October 1934 Revolution, which cost the life of the Carlist deputy Marcelino Oreja Elósegui, Carlism started to prepare for an armed clash with the revolutionaries. During the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) the Carlists were on the side of the Nationalist rebels.
