Making pigtail tobacco: the tobacco leaves are being spun into a long rope. A boy keeps a type of spinning wheel turning while the man at the bench adds more and more leaves to the rope. Pigtail was used mainly for chewing but could be smoked in a pipe. Wood engraving, London, 1841.
