Life was made for love and cheer by Elizabeth Shippen Green Elliott; [1904]. Illustration depicts Green; her colleagues and housemates Jessie Wilcox Smith and Violet Oakley; and other friends enjoying one another's company amid the blossoms on the grounds of the Red Rose Inn; one of the homes that the three artists shared. Children play with a dog in the foreground. Green took the title from enry Van Dyke's poem Inscriptions for a Friend's House; which celebrates the close friendship between the artists.
