Capture of a Rebel Brigade at Gettysburg July 1st 1863. drawn and painted by Conrad Freitag. Conrad Freitag enlisted in the 84th Infantry (New York) in 1862 as a private. He was wounded at Laurel Hill, Virginia in 1864 and mustered out in 1865 from the Ladies Home Hospital as a Corporal. Watercolour image of battle scene, surrounded by images of wounded, hospitals, division and brigade flags above a series of signatures of soldiers, including their regiments. Image includes textual testimonial of gratitude to a Civil War surgeon.
