Info+

The Shah of Iran and his wife Soraya had fled to Rome after the success of the coup organized by Minister Mohammed Mossadegh. The couple found refuge in Hotel Excelsior.
French Paris-Match journalist Benno Graziani heard of the success of the counter-coup at midday. He went straight to the hotel to inform the Shah. From there, he stuck with him. In the plane rented to fly back to Tehran, only four persons were on board: the Shah and his wife and journalists Graziani and Michel Descamp.
