Gorbitz is a larger, predominantly prefabricated housing area on an elongated, higher slope in the west of Dresden. The new housing area was built from 1981 onwards. A total of about 15, 000 flats for 45, 000 people were built on an area of 220 hectares. The foundation stone for the new residential area was laid on 21 August 1981
