Kilpisjärvi lies at the foot of the Saana fells. Kilpisjärvi is located in the Käsivarsi area in north-west Finland, around nine kilometres from the border triangle between Finland, Sweden and Norway, on the shore of the lake of the same name, Kilpisjärvi, at an altitude of 473 metres above sea level. Right next to the village, the 1, 029 metre high Fjell Saana (Sana in northern Sami) rises out of the landscape.
