OpSail 2012 celebrated the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the penning of the Star Spangled Banner, the US National Anthem. New London is the Eagle's homeport. Originally a German vessel, the ship was built in 1936 by the Blohm and Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. The square rigger is a training vessel for US Coast Guard cadets.
