Jean Baptiste Bessières, Duc d'Istrie (1786-1813) . French soldier, appointed Marshal of France in 1804. Distinguished himself at Abukir and Austerlitz (1805) and fought in the campaigns on the Iberian Peninsula and in Russia. Killed by a ricochet bullet on the eve of the Battle of Lützen.
