The Fichtelberg near Oberwiesenthal in the Erzgebirge district is the highest mountain in Saxony at 1214.88 m above sea level (2) 1. Thus, the Fichtelberg was also the highest mountain in the GDR. Together with nearby KlÃnovec (Keilberg) (1243) (7 m a.s.l.) on the Czech side, it forms the most important winter sports centre in the Ore Mountains. Fichtelberghaus
