Vine. The wine-growing region of Saxony is one of the smallest and most north-easterly in Germany. It is located almost exclusively in the Dresden conurbation. The vineyards are located in Saxony and in small parts also near Jessen in Saxony-Anhalt and in Brandenburg. The chronicle of Bishop Thiedmar of Merseburg reports that vines were already found in the Elbe valley when Henry I's troops invaded the Nisan region around 929.
