Gunpowder house: The gunpowder house is located not far from the Überhauen 20 ventilation shaft. Although the use of gunpowder for drilling and blasting in Altenberg has been documented since 1668, this extraction method was slow to catch on due to the high costs involved. In 1793, the massive powder house was built at a sufficiently safe distance from the town centre. It was used for the safe storage of gunpowder until the second half of the 19th century. Ventilation shafts: The two ventilation shafts Überhauen 20 (from 1966) and Überhauen 32 (from 1974), which were protected by shaft buildings, were used for ventilation in the last period of mining in Altenberg. They supplied the mine with fresh air and removed pollutants such as rock dust, blasting gases and ionising radiation caused by radon and radon by-products. The two buildings are among the few remaining ventilation shaft buildings in the Ore Mountains, Altenberg, Altenberg, Saxony, Germany, Europe
