Marl-Haltern am See, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Flooding on the Lippe, river in the Ruhr area, in Haltern-Lippramsdorf and Marl, HaLiMa for short, the flood protection dykes were renewed over a length of 5.6 kilometres. The existing dykes on the north and south banks of the Lippe were replaced by new, relocated dykes. A floodplain area of around 60 hectares was created. The fields, the farmers' agricultural land next to the watercourse are flooded and serve as retention areas and floodplains for flood protection. The Marl Chemical Park in the background, Europe
