DEU Saxony Chemnitz The department stores' in Chemnitz, built in 1912 13 for the Tietz family concern, is one of a group of 7 large department stores that the architect Prof. Wilhelm Kreis built throughout Germany in a period of only 5 years. Prof. Wilhelm Kreis, who had succeeded Peter Behrens as director of the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Arts and Crafts) in Düsseldorf since 1909, began in 1912 with the construction plans for the new department stores' for Hermann & Car
