Spremberg, Grodk in Lower Sorbian, is a town in the Spree-Neisse district of Brandenburg. According to known sources, Spremberg was first mentioned in 1301. The town is a local centre in the Sorbian settlement area in the south of Lower Lusatia and is officially bilingual. One of the town's greatest sons was Erwin Strittmatter
