St Mary's Church in the Thuringian town of Mühlhausen is the second largest church building in the Free State of Thuringia after Erfurt Cathedral. It was mainly built during the 14th century in the Gothic style. Its 86.7 metre high central tower is the tallest in the state and is a major feature of the town's skyline. St Mary's Church has no longer been a parish church since 1975, but is used as a museum by the Mühlhausen Museums Association and as a place of worship for the Protestant parish of Mühlhausen. The high altar of the church dates from after 1525 and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, who is also the patron saint of the church.
