Stolpen Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1222. The fortress was owned by the Bishops of Meissen From 1716 to 1765, the former mistress of Augustus the Strong, Anna Constantia Countess von Cosel, was held prisoner in the castle complex, in particular in the Cosel Tower named after her
