Castrop-Rauxel, Recklinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, EMSCHERLAND adventure park. View of the Suderwicher Bach stream towards the industrial estate on Wartburgstraße. Before renaturalisation, the Emscher river system was an open, above-ground wastewater channel, a combined sewer with surface water and wastewater. Where the Emscher, the Suderwicher Bach and the Rhine-Herne Canal meet, an inter-municipal adventure park has been created in recent years on an area of around 30 hectares. The park's facilities include a water playground, a water learning centre, a perennial garden, a beekeeper's house, a meadow orchard and farm gardens as well as the Emscher Terraces with a future wine-growing area. The ecological focus at the confluence of the Suderwicher Bach and Emscher will also be a future garden for the International Garden Exhibition 2027, Europe
