Ward in the smallpox hospital in Hampstead. This hospital was run by the Metropolitan Asylums Board and was built for the epidemic in the winter of 1870-1871. The picture shows a Nightingale ward with windows opening upwards and downwards. With identical windows on the opposite side, ventilation could be adjusted.
