Italy S-Tyrol Mühlbacher Klause south front v SE detail. The hermitage is located a few kilometres north of Brixen at the entrance to the Pustertal Valley. The older, no longer preserved Mühlbacher Klause (also known as Haslacher Klause) was first mentioned in 1269 and was built by the brothers Meinhard (later Meinhard II of Tyrol) and Albert von Görz, while the younger one (around 200 metres further east of the older one) was built around 1460 by Duke Sigismund of Tyrol. Both marked the border between Tyrol and Gorizia until 1500
