Germany's largest wastewater pumping station uses 10 pumps to pump up to 16, 500 litres of wastewater per second from a depth of around 40 metres. The ecological conversion of the Emscher system consists of the construction of a central wastewater treatment system in the Ruhr region, the construction of sewers and the renaturalisation of the Emscher and its tributaries
