Oberhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Emscher conversion, new Emscher AKE sewer, here the new Oberhausen pumping station, 2 rainwater cisterns collect a total of 50, 000 litres of rainwater, the newly created gardens are then irrigated via a well system. Germany's largest wastewater pumping station uses 10 pumps to pump up to 16, 500 litres of wastewater per second from a depth of around 40 metres. The ecological conversion of the Emscher system consists of the construction of a central wastewater treatment system in the Ruhr area, the construction of sewers and the renaturalisation of the Emscher and its tributaries
