Info+
Napoleon had a taste for playing cards, a passion that he pursued whilst in Saint Helena. Not trusting his memory, he wrote down recollections on the cards he held in his hands, which he would later need in order to write his memoirs. This practice was possible at the time for the back of the playing cards were blank.
These playing cards were recovered after the Emperor's death by General Bertrand (1773-1844).
