Founded in 1902, up until 1939, this company built only boats for the Great Lakes and large rivers.
It built 28 submarines for the US Navy, between 1941 and 1945, as well as 36 LCT-class (Landing Craft Tank) landing craft, including the prototype, tested on Lake Michigan, and 20 small tankers.
