Formation of American Boeing B-29 Super-Flying Fortress strategic bombers.
Used solely in the Pacific against Japan, the B-29 was the largest bomber of World War II. 3,970 B-29s were delivered between 1940 and 1945 by the Boeing factories in Renton (Washington), Wichita (Kansas), Glenn L. Martin in Omaha (Nebraska) and Bell in Marietta (Georgia).
They carried out 26,971 sorties and dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
