Begun at the Wilhelmshaven arsenal on January 1st, 1936 and commissioned in 1939, the German pocket battleship (in fact, a heavy cruiser) "Admiral Graf Spee" had to scuttle itself in the estuary of the Rio de la Plata (Uruguay), after an engagement off Montevideo and the Rio de la Plata with the British cruisers "HMS Ajax" and "HMS Exeter" and the New Zealand cruiser "Achilles", December 13, 1939.
