Above the dome; representation of the Holy City of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, from where the apostles (symbolized as sheeps) are leaving.
On top: representation of the Christ in a medalion, surrounded by symbols of the Four Evangelists.

Built in the 6th century, the basilica was consecrated in 549 by Bishop Maximianus of Ravenna and dedicated to Apollinaris, first Bishop of Ravenna.
