Title
Orvieto, Basilica Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta
Caption
Orvieto, Basilica Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (or Duomo), the interior, Chapel Nova or St. Brizio Chapel, the lunette of the east wall: "Damned to hell", fresco by Luca Signorelli, (1500 - 1502). Detail of a shapely woman raised against her will by a blue demon with a horn in his forehead: it is a self-portrait by Signorelli, evidently alluding to a "private" story with the blonde woman, who perhaps was unfaithful to him.
