Frieze "The entry of Alexander the Great into Babylon"
Caption
"The entry of Alexander the Great into Babylon, a frieze executed between 1818 and 1828 by Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770 - 1844) in Carrara marble./ It is conceived as the meeting between two processions that converge towards the center, that is, towards the figure of Alexander the Great who advances on the chariot led by Victory, followed by his famous steed Bucefalo and his soldiers loaded with booty. In front of the leader, the allegorical figure of Peace, recognizable by the olive branch, precedes the people and the rulers of Babylon, who offer their gifts (horses, lions, panthers ...) to the winner, while dancers scatter flowers in his honor./Detail with dromedary, palm tree and young boys./Musei Civici, Pavia (PV), Lombardia - Lombardy, Italia - Italy
