Charles 1st, known as Charles the Great (in latin, "Carlos Magnus", in french, "Charlemagne", in german "Karl der Große", in dutch "Karel de Grote), probably born on the 2nd April 742 in Liège, and died at Aix-la-Chapelle, on the 28th January, 814. He assumed the titles of King of the Lombards (774-814), King of the Franks (768-814) and Emperor of the West (800-814). He can also be considered as the "Father of Europe" before its establishment. Photo taken in the square of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris.
