Title
Henry VIII and his Court
Caption
Henry VIII (28 June, 1491 28 February 1547) King of England and son of King Kenry VII and Elisabeth. Henry inherited the throne after the death of his older brother, Arthur Tudor, in 1502. He became King in 1509, at the age of seventeen. He is known for his extravagence, as well as for his six marriages. Possibly the most important political act of his reign was the approval of the Union Act of 1536, which enabled the union of England and Wales. He is also the founder of the first, permanent, English fleet, the Royal Navy. His six wives were: Catherine of Aragon (married in 1509), Anne Boleyn (married in 1533), Jane Seymour (married in 1536), Anne of Cleeves (married in 1540), Catherine Howard (married in 1540) and Catherine Parr (married in 1543).
