Panoramic view of Stralsund. Stralsund is a town in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, an area in Pomerania, in the North of Germany. The town is located on the Strelasund, a sound of the Baltic Sea between the island of Rügen and the Continent. As a result of its' location, the town is sometimes known as the "harbour of Rügen". With its' 59,140 inhabitants (as of 31/12/2003), it is one of the largest towns in the region of Pomerania. Its' main source of income is from tourism. Between its' most well-known attractions includes the Museum of the German Sea, the Sea Park, the marina, the Old Market Square (Alter Markt), as well as the Town Hall and the Church of St-Nicolas, the New Marketplace, the Church of St-Marie, etc.
