Paris. Les Quais. La Samaritaine is a large parisian shopping centre, located at the edge of the Seine in the 1st district (arrondissement). La Samaritaine is the most significant shopping centre in Paris in terms of its sales area, with 48,000 m², just ahead of the Galeries Lafayette and Le Printemps. Its advertising slogan relates to the collective parisian mindset: "Find Everything At la Samaritaine". It was founded in 1869, by Ernest Cognacq at Marie-Louise Jaÿ, his wife, formely a merchant of "Bon Marché" suits and shelves. Ernest Cognacq started his small business in the rue de la Monnaie in 1869. With his wife Marie-Louise Jay, they couple decided to extend their shop, which would eventiually give rise to the shopping centres of La Samaritaine in 1900.
