Saint Martin of Tours or Martin the Merciful (born in 316 or 317 in Szombathely in what is currently known as Hungary, died in Candes in 397) was one of the Fathers of the Church. His life is made known to us by the "Vie de Martin de Sulpice-Sévère" ("The Life of Martin of Sulpice-Sévère).. Saint Martin is celebrated on the 11th November funeral in 397) and on the 4th of July (episcopal consecration in 371), celebrated in Saint-Martin-le-Bouillant. 19th Century engraving.
