Grave of Saint Radegund. Saint Radegund (Radegundus in latin) was born in Thuringe around 519, (son of Berthaire, King of Thuringe), and died on the 13th August 587 in Poitiers. She was the Queen of the Franks, the fifth wife of King Clotaire 1st then the founder of the monastery of Sainte-Croix in Poitiers. Celebrated on the 13th August and the 28th February. She was enterred in the abbey-church of Sainte-Marie-hors-les-murs (today Saint-Radegund), in Poitiers. During the Nomadic invasions, her skin was taken to the Abbey Saint-Benoît in Quinçay, then to Poitiers in 868. 19th Century engraving.
