Robert Ist (865-923), younger son of the count of Anjou Robert the Strong, he was the brother of Eudes who became King of the Franks of the West in 888. Names by Eudes as the head of several counties, including those of Paris and the Marches of Neustria, Robert was equally the commendatory abbot of several abbeys. He also obtained the Frankish duchy, a very important military stronghold. He did not claim the crown of the French King when his brother died in 898, instead supporting the claim of the Carolingian King, Charles III.
