Title
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Caption
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also called the Church of the Resurrection (in greek: Naos tis Anastaseos; in georgian : Agdgomis Tadzari; in armenian : Surp Harutyun) by the Christians of the Orien, is a Christian church located in the Old Town of Jerusalem. Jerusalem is considered to be the Holiest of Holy Lands for a large majority of Christians who venerate it. The site itself is composed as a built-sanctuary around the supposed site where Christ was said to be crucified (Golgotha) as well as the site of his burial (the "sepulchre" or tomb of Jesus), and where he would have resurrected (Anastasis, in greek "the Resurrection"). The Church has become an important site of pilgrimage for Christians from the 4th Century onwards. 19th Century engraving.
