Henry II of England.
Caption
Henry II of England (5th March 1133 - 6th July 1189), Count of Anjou and Maine, Duke of Normandy, King of England (1154 - 1189), sometimes known as "Henri Court-manteau" (Curtmantle) as a result of the small and practical clothes he chose to wear. He is the first King of the Plantagenet dynasty and their empire. Of unusual strength, continuously on the move and very cultured, Henry II spent his life attempting to reclaim the rights available during the time of his maternal grandfather Henry Ist of England and maintaining his inherited territory. 19th Century engraving.
